We have needed to do some fixing up of our kitchen (and bathroom!) for quite some time and I think this summer we will FINALLY be getting to at least the kitchen.
Our dishwasher has been needing to be replaced for quite some time but since the previous homeowner tiled that sucker in we’ve been stuck till we could also replace the water damaged counter tops, sink, faucet and maybe even garbage disposal. I spent the afternoon wandering around Home Depot and then Lowe’s looking for affordable solutions since I’m fairly certain we will not reap the benefits of anything expensive come selling time.
So I found some laminate counter tops sold on the floor at Lowe’s that look good and are reasonably priced and after looking at the in stock cabinets am hopeful we can just get ours repaired since the ones at both Home Depot and Lowe’s are not cheap but are cheaply made. There was a decent deal on a sink at Home Depot and we saw a nice faucet at Sam’s over the weekend, or there was a sink/faucet combo that might work at Lowe’s. I found a reasonably priced dishwasher at Lowe’s too.
Home Depot had this neat vinyl wood flooring that made me want to start ripping out the carpet in all but our bedrooms, and Lowe’s had a similar flooring that also looked like a feasible alternative to hard wood. However, I am not wanting to experiment on my house so we need someone to install it which significantly changes the price … unless we find someone who will let me help and cut costs a little.
So now we meet a guy on Friday to see if we can get this stuff all installed for a reasonable price and go from there!
Once we tackle the kitchen and possibly the flooring, we’ll see if there is any energy (and money) left for the bathroom.
I hope this works out this summer.
